About Rocket, the Shiba Inu

Hi! I’m Rocket! I’m a black & tan, male Shiba Inu, born on May 26, 2017.

I adopted my mom and dad in August of 2017 when I was still tiny and fuzzy. My new house smelled like another dog but that’s OK. The house and the big fenced-in backyard are now all mine! I’m apparently named after someone famous – some trash panda that’s in a movie. I dunno who that is.

Rocket the Shiba Inu as a puppy
That’s me, Rocket, on the first day I adopted my mom and dad!

My mom says I’m a typical Shiba Inu, whatever that means. I’m special and there are none like me! I really don’t like strangers (the non-furry kind) until I can trust that they are going to be my friends. The furry people (aka dogs) are usually my friends as long as they understand my personal space and don’t act a fool.

But when you are my friend, I LOVE you! I follow you around, I give you kisses, I don’t even mind if you take the food that I’m eating — even right out of my mouth. I never get mad at my friends.

My mom is my snuggle buddy though. I’m always following her around and sit next to her to make sure that she doesn’t get into any trouble. As long as the trouble doesn’t come in the form of a loud noise, new non-furry people or new things (I especially hate those cardboard boxes with the creepy smiley mouth on the side that show up unannounced by our front door!!), I’m there to protect my mom.

Check out Rocket in action!

I don’t speak Japanese. I don’t talk hooman at all, as matter of fact. But I’m helping my mom with this site by being the model for the Shiba Inu information resource pages or helping with pronunciation for tough Japanese words like Okonomiyaki or how to pronounce Japanese Rs!
