Tuna Mayo Pasta Salad

Inspired by the tuna mayo onigiri that's a popular Japanese rice ball snack, this tuna mayo pasta salad is as delicious as it is easy!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb elbow macaroni pasta, dry
  • 2 cans (5 oz) tuna or one 9 1/4 oz or 12 oz can
  • 1/2 medium white onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, thinly chopped optional
  • salt
Dressing
  • 5 tablespoons mayonnaise Japanese or regular
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce low sodium
  • 1 tablespoon Mentsuyu

Method
 

  1. In a small bowl, mix all the dressing ingredients together. Set it aside.
  2. Slice the onion thinly and sprinkle with a generous pinch of salt. Massage the salted onions and let it sit for about 10 minutes.  Rinse with water then squeeze the washed onions to get as much moisture out.

  3. Cook pasta according to package instructions. Drain and add a tablespoon of sesame oil to the cooked pasta and toss to coat.
  4. Add tuna (drained), onions (rinsed) and dressing mixture. Mix well.

  5. Refrigerate before serving.
